Harmony Pilates & Physical Therapy offers both a full service physical therapy clinic and Pilates studio. Our services include: Physical Therapy covered by insurance, private and semi-private Pilates sessions and a variety of Pilates equipment classes ranging from gentle, restorative and therapeutic to athletic based Pilates training.  We also provide prenatal Pilates, Barre classes, Pilates mat classes and can provide your team, group of friends or co-workers with your own private Pilates class.

Shirley Dumaw

Owner of Harmony Pilates and Physical Therapy, is a seasoned Certified Pilates Instructor (500 training hours) and instructed in numerous prestigious Pilates studios in southern California for over three years before purchasing two Harmony Pilates and Physical Therapy studios in Oahu, Hawaii, April 2016. She brings her Pilates skills and training to Harmony, along with over 25 years of office management experience from the corporate world: The Upjohn Company, now Pfizer, in Michigan; ADAPT Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services in Indiana; Ed Rose and Sons Property Management (managing 400+ units at a time); Westpeak Investment Services out of Boulder, CO – just to name a few; as well as co-managing two Veterinary Services in Michigan with her husband for 17 years. She was groomed with finishing touches in the business arena from Western Michigan University and is thrilled to blend both her expertise in Business and in Pilates & Fitness together to help bring excellent Pilates and Physical Therapy services to the beautiful island of Oahu.

Physical Therapists & Instructors

All of our physical therapists are licensed in the state of Hawaii and have experience with a variety of conditions, including sports injuries, post-surgical protocols, soft tissue injuries, back and neck problems, chronic pain, balance issues, women’s health, prenatal and postpartum conditions.

All of our Pilates instructors are certified, insured and have experience working with various types of clients such as those coming out of a physical therapy program, those recovering from an injury or competitive athletes.  Instructors are able to modify a Pilates program to meet individual needs.  Find out why Pilates is such an effective form of physical restoration and how it enhances performance.

Karen Sebastian MSPT
Physical Therapist
Karen earned her Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from Boston University in 1996 and then completed her Pilates training under Marie-Jose Blom in 2001. She has experience in many areas of rehabilitation, including neurological, acute care and orthopedics, and she has a special interest in women's pelvic floor issues such as incontinence and postpartum rehab. She works in partnership with her patients using a "whole-body" approach to help you meet your fitness and rehabilitation goals.

Tara Tannenholz MPT
Physical Therapist & Pilates Instructor
Tara has been active all her life, starting with snowboarding in the mountains of of the western United States. She received her degree in Physiotherapy in Southern Australia in 2002, and moved to Hawaii shortly thereafter. She worked in various orthopedic outpatient settings before finding Pilates in 2010. She loves bringing her physical therapy background, knowledge and love for people together with Pilates concepts. She enjoys surfing and getting to the beach as much as possible.

Kathy Avery
Physical Therapist
Kathy was born in Wisconsin and raised in northern Minnesota. She began her college education at the University of Minnesota Duluth and then transferred to Valdosta State University in Georgia where she graduated with a BS degree in Sports Medicine in 1988. She continued her education at VSU receiving her BS degree in Physical Education in 1992. After working for several years in a physical therapy clinic she moved to Aberdeen Scotland to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a Physical Therapist. She completed her Physiotherapy degree from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1998. She has been living in Hawaii since 2002. Kathy has been working as a physical therapist in outpatient settings for over 20 years and specializes in manual therapy. She is also a certified Pilates instructor and incorporates Pilates into her rehabilitation protocols, when appropriate. Currently Kathy is in her fifth year of a Doctor of Science program in physical therapy with an emphasis on manual therapy at Andrews University and plans to graduate May 2017.

Jen McFarland MSPT
Physical Therapist
Jen McFarland received her Masters in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto in 2006. She has been a Nationally Certified Pilates teacher since 2012 and received her training through Polestar Pilates. Jen worked in orthopedic settings in British Columbia, Nevada, and Colorado before settling on Oahu with her husband 5 years ago. Jen has completed numerous orthopedic continuing education courses and has extensive experience treating shoulder, knee and spine injuries. She also enjoys working with both pregnant and post-partum clients. Jen combines her manual therapy techniques with Pilates’ exercises to ensure a comprehensive rehabilitation experience. In her spare time, she loves hiking, surfing, beach walks and swimming with her two young daughters.

Moon Moniot DPT

Moon spent many of her formative years doing gymnastics, and as a result significantly injured her knee and low back. Her rehabilitation experiences inspired her to pursue a career in physical therapy, and she received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California in 2003. She discovered Pilates around the same time, and it was instrumental in the healing process for her low back. After a decade of practicing Pilates, she completed the Harmony Mat and Equipment Teacher Training Program in 2012.

Diana-Marisol Najera-Lin DPT
Physical Therapist
Diana brings a rich and diverse experience in the fields of general physical therapy, orthopedics, and sports medicine. Diana obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Education from the University of California in Irvine. Her physical therapy career began with an athletic training and sports medicine internship at mount San Antonio College. While attending University, she worked with a variety of UC Irvine athletes, including those from football, basketball, soccer, swimming, and dancing teams. She received a doctorate of physical therapy from Western University of Health Sciences, CA. She had the honor of being on UC Irvine's Dean's List in 2001 and 2002, the Nation's Dean's List in 2002, and received the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Career Scholarship in 2004. In her 11 years of practice as Physical Therapy, Diana continues to build on her strong foundation. She has developed her skills in the field of orthopedics and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist. One of her highlights includes working with the China Olympic Team for the 2012 -2013 winter season. Diana continues to support the profession and helps shape the future of physical therapy by mentoring students in California and Hawaii as a certified clinical instructor. Diana looks forward to integrating Pilates with her Physical Therapy techniques here at Harmony.

Yasha Siemienski
Pilates Instructor
Yasha has always enjoyed being physically active - from kickboxing and yoga to golf and paddleboarding. She tried Pilates in 2007 and was hooked. She loved how it synthesized elements she had enjoyed in different types of exercise. As she learned more, she became passionate about Pilates' long-term benefits, and now considers Pilates crucial to improving and extending people's quality of life. Yasha trained as a teacher in the Stott Method of Pilates in 2008. Her training includes Mat, Reformer, Cadillac and Stability Chair, and she specializes in the senior, runner and prenatal populations. She aspires to help people create balance and energy in mind, body and spirit through beautifully trained movement!

Asa C Mills DPT
Pilates Instructor
Asa grew up in Washington state and Idaho and has been active in sports and fitness for most of his life including snowboarding as a teenager, collegiate rugby, and his ongoing passions for martial arts and surfing. In addition to the benefits of sports training, he has witnessed and personally experienced various sports injuries, which led him to earn his Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences from the University of Miami in 2009 and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of Miami in 2012. There, as a student of Dr. Brent Anderson, he discovered Pilates and became a certified Pilates instructor with an emphasis on rehabilitation through Polestar Pilates. He went on to work at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA where he completed a residency in orthopedic physical therapy and became a board-certified orthopedic specialist (OCS). Dr. Mills has experience and expertise in manual therapy, strength training, injury prevention, joint mobilization, neural mobilization, and post-surgical rehabilitation. His wholistic treatment approach focuses on improving the overall wellness of his patients. When he is not treating patients or teaching Pilates, Dr. Mills enjoys surfing, diving, hiking, sailing, travel, muay thai, and playing music.

She enjoys integrating all of these specialties to help patients achieve their health and lifestyle goals. In her free time, she has a love for all things ocean to include swimming, scuba and free diving and surfing.

Laura Foster
Pilates Instructor
Laura Foster received her 450 hr. Comprehensive Pilates Certification in 2008 from Core Conditioning Physical Therapy and Pilates thru Balanced Body University. As well as continuing education most notably with Blossom Leilani Crawford, and Courtney Miller’s Athletic Reformer series. Laura went through the Cancer Exercise Institute training program, learning the safest and most effective ways to create an exercise Pilates based program for anyone that is currently undergoing cancer treatment as well as those on their way to long term survivorship. Helping patients minimize treatments and side effects, correcting range of motion and muscle imbalances. She has taught and worked with a wide array of clientele at studios throughout Los Angeles and Pittsburgh, PA. Laura studied Musical Theater and Dance at the University of Central Oklahoma before relocating to Los Angeles to dance, perform, and teach professionally. She was a principal dancer and rehearsal director for Winifred R. Harris’ Between Lines Contemporary Dance Co. touring America and abroad. Laura has as well taught ballet, and classical modern techniques for studios, non-profits, and dance companies including the Regina Klenjoski Dance Co, Joseph Allen Decker Dance Co, and the Music Center of Los Angeles:. She has also appeared in regional commercials and film. After dancing professionally Laura found Pilates helped her recover from injuries, moving, and strong. Now here she is on this beautiful island, where she will continue teaching everything she has learned in a supportive and joyful environment. Lahela Hekekia

Lahela Hekekia has been in the health and wellness industry since 2001 – as a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) and NCBTMB certified since 2001; teaching massage therapy since 2005; teaching Pilates since 2007, and fully certified by Pilates Method Alliance and STOTT PILATES ® since 2011. (Level 1 STOTT PILATES® certification in 2008). Lahela has also studied Osteopathic Sciences for several years and is Level 3 Certified through the Franklin Method®. Lahela loves to describe how Pilates with self-massage changed her spine – after 2 years of daily practice, she had an x-ray and noticed a substantial improvement in her spine and hips. That was in 2009! It has been about 10 years since then, and she has continued to fine tune her body ever since, while striving to understand functional movement. Along the way, Lahela discovered an amazing therapy that resolved her own case of Plantar Fasciitis in 6 treatments and sought out the training as soon as it was available to LMTs. Lahela has attracted a number of clients with Scoliosis and other spine issues as a result of her own progress. She also loves to keep athletes injury free, whether weekend warriors or serious international competitors. She also loves to work with Kupuna, helping them achieve more autonomy through better coordination, balance, strength, and flexibility. Some of her clients are in their late 80s. Carrie Menke has been a STOTT Pilates instructor for 15 years and holds a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Washington State University. She comes to Hawaii via Bangkok Thailand, where she owned and ran her own private Pilates small business. There she also taught clients at a leading city Pilates studio for the past 10 years. Carrie teaches clients at all levels, from beginner to advanced. Her experience and qualifications include teaching injury and special populations and has designed and taught programs for clients with Parkinson’s, scoliosis, osteoporosis, knee and hip replacements, and back injuries. Teaching exercise and wellness has been a true calling for Carrie, as her clients can attest to. She is enthusiastic about improving the bodies and lives of others and is excited to work with people of all ages and fitness levels.

Lorin Sisco

Lorin Sisco moved to Manoa from Aurora CO and received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Nutrition from the University of Hawaii. She followed up her Degree by attaining Certification as a Pilates Instructor and is thrilled to be Instructing soon at Harmony Pilates both in Kailua and Manoa. She has been lending her administrative professionalism to Front Desk operations at Harmony in Manoa for some time as well while perfecting her Pilates Instructing Skills. Past experiences for Lorin reveal that she interned in UH Athletics during Football Season; interned at surfing competitions including Hawaiian Pro, Pipe Masters, and HIC Pro; helped children with motor skills in a Children’s Motor Clinic, among many other leadership and highly creative endeavors. Lorin’s focus is helping the “whole person” through her varied training and certifications, which even include Spanish translation as a bonus. Pilates Instructing ties everything together for Lorin, and she is ready to give and lead at Harmony.
